S02E04 – Back to Work
Morning everyone 👋
10 weeks (but what feels like several months) since lockdown here in the UK, my three year old son is returning to childcare on Monday. From a development perspective, although I’ve managed to get as much done as possible in this time, progress has generally been unsatisfactory – I estimate being around six weeks behind schedule. What has been difficult is finding the motivation to get started and then the rhythm needed to keep going. Although my son will be at childcare for only a few days every week, I’m hopeful the progress made at the start of the week will power me through the rest of the week.
This week was mainly spent integrating the new weather providers. The good news is the work I’ve done so far ensures integrating any weather provider moving forward won’t be a time consuming task. I’m still in the process of getting agreements finalised with the two I’ve identified as the most important: AccuWeather & Foreca. There are others in play too, but these two seem to provide the best service at the most affordable rates. Their apps are unlikely to win any design awards, and with more than 50 million downloads between them, there’s clearly a demand for their reporting. Managing to attract a small subset of their audience will make a big difference.
With more clarity and predictability with time available to work, a good part of tomorrow will be spent planning my week. Time to be an effective project manager. I’m looking forward to it!
I’ll let you know how it goes.
Have a great Sunday.
