Good morning 👋
I made serious progress with custom notifications in the last week. It’s not going to disappoint any ex-Dark Sky users, and, in fact, I feel it may be the best possible implementation of such a feature in a weather app. That’s assuming all weather apps restrict you to a single condition & timeframe per custom notification. Although it’s going to be a rich v1, I’ve even more ideas for future updates.
I have little over two weeks to go now to finish the above, finalise integration work on the new weather providers, and try to squeeze in another big feature: custom widgets. The main motivation to get this done in such a tight timeframe is to give users more reason to go with one of the new subscription options.
About that, I’m thinking the current Appy Weather+ sub to stay as it is, but to have two new ones available: Appy Weather++ & Appy Weather Pro. Originally, I considered the custom notifications & widgets to be “pro” features and so would be more appropriate for the most expensive Pro subscription. But, I’m starting to think it’s best to only include options in the Pro subscription that incur the greatest cost: premium weather providers, one of which is imminent and another hopefully arriving later this summer. I’m also thinking with the Pro subscription, unlike the other two, to have options to pay monthly or yearly.
Curveball – I could keep it simple, drop ++ and just go with Appy Weather+ & Appy Weather Pro. Just bear in mind, the idea with ++ was to give users not in need of the premium providers cheaper access to custom notifications/widgets (how considerate of me, but maybe not the smartest business move), resulting in subscription options starting from (relatively) inexpensive to not expensive to expensive (as opposed to inexpensive & expensive only). Unless I up the price of + that is! But this risks cancellations. See, this isn’t easy :)
If you’ve got this far, as a reward, a little exercise 😅 It would be super helpful to read what you think the subscription portfolio should look like (1, 2 or 3 subscriptions to pick from) and how much each should be priced. As a bonus, would be great to know what’s the most you’d be willing to pay for a subscription. I know you’re a special subset of my user base, but it would be interesting to know anyway what your limit, if any, would be for an app that you’re a fan of.
Have a great Sunday!
Best,
Bardi
I think it is always good to have more options.
So 3 options I think would be good.
Standard, Premium and Pro.
The highest option I think can be at least doubled the price from now.
Currently it is 3,39 €, so it could be 7,99 € per Year for the Pro.
And 5,99 € for the Premium.
Standard € 3,99
Premium € 5,99
Pro € 7,99
I think a three-step model is ok if it is transparent to the user what he gets for it. The individual packages should also stand out clearly from each other, so that the subscriber is also in the current period a confirmation that he has made the right decision. So there remains satisfaction and thus customer loyalty.
