S03E24 – I Work
Good morning 👋
I worked from three different WeWork locations this week. The one I eventually settled on was a ~40 minute commute. What a waste of time. But, to be fair, it’s not all bad. There is some good too. In theory anyway. Going in, I could prep for the day. Coming back, I could reflect. The thing is, I don’t need this much time for either. I could have been either doing more work with this time, or actually having a proper rest (unlikely). But what working out of home does effectively manage is set clear boundaries between work/life. Working from home for 2+ years, it’s been difficult to disconnect at any point. Whereas this last week, it happened effortlessly. I was so tired by the time I was home that I couldn’t even think about work, let alone do it. This tiredness was such a good feeling. A sense of accomplishment. Because, yes, I’m happy to share I managed to get through a lot in the last week. And I was doing more like six hour days too. That said, I didn’t like coming home late (5pm!). It didn’t feel right when my 4 y/o’s been back home for a couple of hours. So, what I’m considering for next week is test working out of home more locally, so that I’m able to do the school pick up (and perhaps skip the 9am drop off, which I was doing this week).
In other positive developments, Dark Sky this week announced that their API will continue to function through to the end of 2022. This means there’s much less pressure to deliver additional providers on the Android version of Appy Weather this year, and that the iOS release will likely include it too. Reading between the lines, I suspect the extension is because Apple were unable to add in time the Dark Sky API to their recently announced iOS 15 SDK. If I’m right, then there’s an eventual possibility Dark Sky weather may be available for free for third-party weather apps on iOS. This would save a lot of money. Fingers crossed.
Have a great Sunday!
Best,
Bardi
