Good morning 👋
When I became an indie, I had a 12 month runway to work with – succeed and continue, otherwise tidy up my LinkedIn. Although I never actually defined what success at the end of a year would look like, work on ruff began to theoretically double my probability of whatever success is i.e. let’s not put all my eggs in one app. Same goes with the in-progress ambition to have a presence on iOS. But what do all these endeavours have in common? They’re all apps available on platforms that take a 30% cut from every sale (yes, this becomes 15% on subscription renewals). If this was a side-project, then the fee would be almost irrelevant but when you hustle for every sale, it’s impossible to ignore. And so to support my ambition to continue as an independent app developer, I’ve actually concluded I need to think beyond apps.
Today, I’m happy to share with you that I’ve started writing a book.
I feel there’s a story to share from my experiences as an indie that others in this space will find helpful. I’m looking forward to being transparent because the specifics matter (and should provide the expected value). The current plan is for it to be completed by the end of November. Ambitious, I know. But, based on how I’m structuring this, I think it will be feasible. Also, for a change, I want to ship sooner rather than later, primarily so iOS work doesn’t get pushed. To help hit my target, I won’t be writing you a letter in November, but will be back in December, hopefully with a book announcement! App development, however, will continue mostly as normal during this period.
Have a great November! Stay safe and healthy.
Best,
Bardi
Best of luck, Bardi! I look forward to hearing from you in a month!
Very interesting news ;-)
And wish you good luck that your book is selling well.
I hope you share some details if and how this is going.
